  • Details:  A rare find and in wonderful condition for its age!  The Lady's Own Toilet Pin Box is a beautifully decorated small tin with an English coat of arms and the words: "Best Pins, Perfect Points".  This one contains lots of tiny pins, (we can't say for sure if it's completely full or how many were inside originally), called perfect point 'pins, they measure about 25mm (1 inch) in length.  Originally used for millinery & dressmaking and used as fasteners for not only for clothing, but also to secure hats, veils, and other fabrics.   Inside it reads partially:  "Manufactured by Tubbs, Lewis & Co. Limited, London England".  around the house like curtains and a staple on the vanity or lady’s dressing table.  The word "Toilet" here comes from the French word toile, meaning cloth, not anything to do with bathrooms.  A wonderful gift for a tin collector, advertisement collector or as vanity  decor.

Tubbs, Lewis & Co. was founded in 1854 London England by Henry Thomas Tubbs and Joseph Lewis.  It was a prominent textile manufacturer and wholesaler with a wide range of products like:  elastic fabrics, English haberdashery, elastic cords, braids, suspender webs, garters, and knitting pins.  They were purchased in 1965 by Wolsey, one of the oldest textile firms in the world, known for high-quality underwear, socks, and knitwear, holding a Royal Warrant from 1935. Later acquired by Courtaulds, one of the world’s largest producers of silk, rayon, and other man-made fibers, and the developer of viscose rayon.  The Tubbs, Lewis & Co name continued to be used until 1981 when they were acquired by Renishaw.
